Building Futures
When people look back on this day they will ask where you were. You will answer “I was there from the very start. I was one of the few. When there was nothing more than an old building and an idea that artists could unite in a common cause, I rolled up my sleeves. When the people asked, I stood up and said ‘yes’.”
We invite you to join us: Imagine a city in which everyone has access to free arts education. That’s our commitment.
The Mission
The mission of the Denver Art Society is to organize Denver’s creative renaissance. Our program, Denver Public Art University, provides opportunities for community-organized arts classes, open public exhibitions, and personal creative development.
By joining together, we can work to solve common problems, not by lowering the bar of failure, but by raising the bar of excellence.
Why art?
Art helps you raise the standard of excellence in your community. You saw it in the Italian Renaissance. You saw it the Harlem Renaissance. You’re seeing it now: Creative thinkers working together are changing the world for good.
By cultivating our own creativity, we can share new sources of wealth with everyone in our community.
Why now?
As you read this, schools budgets are falling. Arts classes are diminishing. Our community is becoming increasingly disconnected. At this critical moment we are reaching out to you, our creative community, to help sustain our future through local, collective arts programs. Today, you can work towards a brighter tomorrow.
First Steps
Although we are working to provide creative opportunities for all people in Denver, the first step to make this possible in our Community Center. Our 10,000 sq. ft. building, located at 734 Santa Fe Dr., is nestled in the heart of the ArtWalk and is serving the Lincoln, La Alma, and Baker neighborhoods.
The top floor is a music and dance performance space as well as an event venue, maintained by our Gold Members. The ground-level ballroom, capable of hosting fi ve simultaneous classes, is curated by our Art Council. The Underground is home to our Resident Artists.
Gold Members have access to our facilities in order to host their own cultural events, arts projects, and fundraisers. Services such as catering, music, and security are also available.
Art Council Members get to exhibit and sell their art on the First and Third Friday ArtWalks, keeping 100% of the profits from their art.
Resident Artists have access to their own personal 225 sq. ft. studio space in the Denver Art Underground and opportunities for exclusive solo shows in the Main Gallery.
