Looking to be a part of a great movement working to bring free creative education to everyone? Looking to volunteer at fun, cultural events like poetry slams, art salons, art critiques, and music concerts?

We are recruiting people to help us plan and host cultural events at the Denver Art Society, 734 Santa Fe Dr. The type of events we try to throw are focused on the humanities, freedom of expression, and family-friendly.

For example, last week we had an amazing poetry reading. There was a dj spinning spoken-word records from the 1940s. There were 10 poets who stood up and read. There were 2 year olds, 10 year olds, and 18 year olds participating. Everyone had a great time and there were some real, serious ideas proposed.

It’s about great ideas. We are about creative education and our events need to reflect that.

If you are interested in helping us throw cultural, community events based in the arts, music, dance, literature, or drama, please get in touch with us. We are looking for event planners to help us turn the Denver Art Society into the center of Denver’s creative renaissance — a rebirth of creative thinking right here on the ArtWalk.

Together, we are working towards a stronger community — especially for the 1,700 kids in our neighborhood who don’t have access to a single class in arts, music, theater, dance OR literature.

Please send an email to events@denverartsociety.org with a paragraph about yourself, a few examples of events you’ve planned, and the reason why you are interested in volunteering for our organizations.

Thanks all!

-DAS Family

Join Us.

Hello Denverite,

Congratulations! You have been recommended to the Denver Art Society , a 501(c)3 that supports art for all, as a great candidate to sit on our Event Committee to help plan and grow our annual event, “Art Out Loud.”

2010 was our inaugural year, and Art Out Loud consisted of 30 Colorado artists, and 10 performances by Colorado musicians; all with the intentions of raising funds to help provide free art education to Denver’s youth through the Denver Art Society’s program: Denver Public Art University. With a couple hundred attendees, we were able to raise $2500 in just a few hours.

Our forecast for the future is huge. Our vision is to grow this to be one of Denver’s largest art and music festivals, and the only that consists of solely Colorado talent. You are a key to our success, and we ask that you join us on November 22, 2010 at Sketch Wine Bar located at 101 N. Broadway to learn more about how you can become a part of our team for Art Out Loud 2011.

Sincerely,

You can help the homeless create opportunities for themselves from your desk. Help us reach our goal!

Have 60 seconds to help the homeless?

Share the link on your Facebook page: http://denverartsociety.org/projects/dhae

Join Denver Art Society Group on Facebook and invite your friends to join. The more support we get at the grassroots level, the awareness and support we can raise for the homeless.

Tweet for the homeless: Give a Gift Canvas to a homeless artist in Denver for just $10 now at http://h.dpau.org/dhae #homelessart #denverart

Have 60 minutes to help the homeless?

Can you rally your friends to support a great cause? Do you know anyone in newspaper or radio who can help us spread the word? Do you have a hundred friends on FB?

We need volunteers to help us get to our goal of raising $2,000 by Friday at 5pm. If we can do this, we will bring immediate relief directly to the Homeless before the winter sets in. By donating art supplies you are giving tools and teaching valuable skills; for example, the average $1 of donated art supplies donated to the homeless sells for more than $3.15).

Denver Art Society and Denver Public Art University are organizing the next DENVER HOMELESS ART EXHIBIT for the First Friday in February, but we need to get these canvases built right now. DAS is 100% grassroots, 100% volunteer powered, and now we need your help to make this a success.

If you can help, please send and email to the project coordinator sean@denverartsociety.org with a note about how you can contribute. Right now we are principally looking for:

1. MAJOR PUBLIC AWARENESS – Newspaper articles, tv spots, blog posts, radio announcements, facebooks, twitters.
2. SPREAD THE MESSAGE TO “GIVE A GIFT CANVAS” – For $20 one person can give a canvas, paint supplies, art workshops, and an exhibit on the ArtWalk or one homeless artist. We need to spread this message.
3. GRASSROOTS ACTIVIST – If you know anyone who can help with this project, please refer them here.

Thank you. Together we are building a stronger future for ourselves, as well as every single one of our neighbors.

We’re full steam ahead with the 2nd Annual Denver Homeless Art Exhibit! Yes!

This year we have a new team and bigger aspirations than ever. Our four-person DHAP Council needs a fifth — someone to oversee operations and logistics involved in the following two main areas

1. Building Canvases
–Reach out to hardware companies to donate raw materials to the cause
–Organize employees of local businesses for “team-building” day to construct canvases from simple materials (instructions, etc provided) in fun, competitive format.

2. Deliver/Pickup Canvases from Partner Homeless Shelters
–Prepare art supply kits with canvases, paints, paintbrushes, and ownership receipts
–Arrange artists to hold optional workshops at shelter in between dropoff and pickup times.

That’s it! You will have your expenses paid, but for now everyone is a volunteer on the project. If the team raises enough funds for the homeless, the team may produce a proposal to accelerate the growth of the project through funding for the officers.

You will be one of five members on Denver Art Society’s Homeless Art Council, together responsible for the Denver Homeless Art Exhibit, which takes place every couple of months on the First Friday ArtWalk on Santa Fe Dr.

This is an amazing project for everyone who is involved. Requires about one to four hours per week and one meeting a month (once you get your feet wet). Interested volunteers please reply to the email address above with a bit about yourself, why you would like to be involved in this project, and how capable you are working logistics for something (hands-on) like this.

Thanks, Denver’s Volunteers, for keeping this such an amazing place to live! Keep up the activism!

Please help me spread this message. Today, Denver is losing about 500 jobs.

In fact every day, Denver, you lose about 500 jobs.

But your creative sector is creating jobs. Every day, your music and art industries create good high-paying jobs deep within local communities. Together, your designers, artists, musicians, and creative talent make up for Colorado’s 5th largest business sector, in both revenues and jobs.

Why is your art so essential? Because your art and music industries are the largest sustainable exports in your city’s history. Because the global art and music industry is fantastically lucrative: 1% of the global art market share would double Denver’s economy overnight.

And yet you are cutting your creative education programs, Denver!

While art and music generate thousands of jobs, your government’s budget has forced schools to scale back, unavoidably attacking the Arts — English, Theater, Music, etc — in record numbers.

Right now, school is nearly in session. We need help. One in six children will be denied even a single art or music class. Help us enrich our neighborhoods and communities with sustainable, creative education programs.

Please donate $5 today and help Denver Art Society support our creative education programs.

This is an urgent affair. Schools need this money now. Sadly, the most artless schools are often the most in need of art’s benefits, art’s jobs, and art’s revenues.

Consider this. Your bands are performing across the globe. Your art is sold in every country. And yet you’re cutting creative education programs!

You’re losing jobs. Our creative sector sustained us through these last two years — creative education is the easy way to bring more jobs, more revenues for schools and parks, and more opportunities for our children for the next two years, and beyond.

We can reinvigorate creative education in Denver, starting today, but we need your support. You can help spread this message — and combat artlessness by raising awareness of the artless everywhere.

Please donate $5 or more today:

http://denverartsociety.org/donate.

Thank you for helping us get here.

Sean McGowan
President, Denver Art Society
